A newly shared video by Reverb finds Nine Inch Nails keyboardist/bass/vocalist, etc. Alessandro Cortini showing off his Tascam Portastudio that he uses in his live rig. The relatively lo-fi four-track recorder (it does sport cassette tape slot for recording) allows him to have direct analog control over certain elements for the live recreations of songs, enabling him to give them a life of their own.
He demonstrates it quite clearly on a part of the Nine Inch Nails staple “Hurt” in the video. As Cortini explains, he prefers the idiosyncrasies of the recorder and views it as more of an instrument rather than a playback device, which most musicians would use in this day and age.
