Update – January 21st 02:35pm:
There’s now an official release date for the pair’s new album “Post Pop Depression“. It will arrive March 18th on Loma Vista Recordings.
Original Story:
Queens Of The Stone Age mastermind Josh Homme and Iggy Pop have teamed up and will release a new album together on Loma Vista in March. The effort was recorded in secrecy and is titled “Post Pop Depression“. They began writing and recording it together last January, financing the sessions themselves. The outfit will make their live debut on ‘The Late Show With Stephen Colbert‘ tonight, January 21st. Homme said to nytimes.com of Pop:
“He is the last one of the one-of-a-kinds. This is a much deserved victory lap for a man who’s not sure if he won. But he did. He may have tunneled underground for lots of that, but he still got to the destination.”
Queens Of The Stone Age‘s guitarist/keyboardist Dean Fertita and Arctic Monkeys drummer Matt Helders sat in on the album sessions, which resulted in 9 tracks. Live shows are being planned with Queens Of The Stone Age guitarist Troy Van Leeuwen and Matt Sweeney of Chavez rounding out the lineup on bass. There’s a lot more to learn about the project over at nytimes.com.
