A report running over at The New York Times has word that Apple is utilizing assets and employees gained from their acquisition of Beats Music service for a subscription streaming service of their own that will rival Spotify. Citing anonymous sources, Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor—who was a Chief Creative Officer for Beats—is said to be “playing a major role” in redesigning the music app. Sources have indicated to the publication that the Beats Music name will likely be shelved for the new service and that no free option will be offered.
