Queens Of The Stone Age frontman/guitarist Josh Homme and Nine Inch Nails mastermind Trent Reznor took part in a joint interview with Triple J in advance of their co-headlining tour together down under. During the chat Homme mentioned that he hopes more bands co-headline together in the future. Of that he said:
“I think what’s cool about this tour… I’ve been… For the last few years saying why don’t bands, you know, co-headline together, why don’t they do something. You know—lots of these festivals are like 50 or 60 bands—it’s too much to sort of encapsulate ideas too grand. I think the notion of like somewhere between 6 and 10 bands is much stronger.
And if the wingspan of it was a little more lateral, where it was like artwork and film—I’d be into book recommendations too. I’d be interested to hear what an artist I was into was reading, you know. So perhaps this is the start to it, cause there’s not a lot of co-headlining going on, there’s not a lot of that solidarity and kind of like, cool competition in a good way.”
He continued:
“I think everyone’s kinda chasing the dough all the time. Instead of trying to make art a little more… I know that Trent and myself get so obsessed with trying to set your own bar, that it’s nice to sort of put bands together and like I said have that solidarity and something that’s greater than a sum of the parts.”
