Killswitch Engage, Times Of Grace, etc. vocalist Jesse Leach appears on the latest episode of the Talk Toomey podcast, discussing Times Of Grace‘s forthcoming album “Songs Of Loss And Separation” (due out July 16th), his 2012 return to Killswitch Engage and more. Early on in the conversation, which you can hear below, Leach revealed that the majority of his passion for metal lies in that of death metal. He stated:
“I love metal, don’t get me wrong. But I’m more of a death metal dude. If I’m gonna out on a metal record, I’m old school death metal—that’s the shit I like.”

When quizzed about his top 5 death metal bands, he responded with Entombed, Carcass, Edge Of Sanity, Cannibal Corpse and Suffocation. This led him to discuss his thoughts on metalcore—a genre Killswitch Engage helped to popularize earlier in their career and remain one of the largest acts in. He revealed that the now standard template for that style of music doesn’t really appeal to him, offering:
“I don’t really like the metalcore style, it’s not something I listen to. The sing songy with the yelling/screaming… I was part of helping develop that sound. But It’s not something I like go and listen to metalcore. I don’t give a shit about it.”
Leach‘s listening habits aren’t limited to metal however, as he later discussed the passion he has for punk, hardcore and more further on in the chat.
