Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor: “I Think Rock Bands Are Out Of Fashion Generally These Days”

Having performed some high profile festival shows this year alongside acts from varying genres, Nine Inch Nails lynchpin Trent Reznor has some thoughts on the band’s relevance of and that of rock music as a whole. Speaking recently with, he said of being the proverbial black sheep at the festivals:

“You always have a question of relevance and it’s hard to see how others see yourself, I’ve noticed, as you get older and you’ve been around for awhile.

When you’ve got fans whose kids could be fans, it’s just hard to kind of figure out who you are, how people see you, externally. I’d like you see me as Bowie, but you might see me as…

So, we were pleasantly surprised to see a full house and appreciative and engaged audience. We didn’t feel like we were the old guys or we’re ‘the rock band’…

I think rock bands are out of fashion generally these days, but I don’t give a shit.”

The discussion also saw him touch on various other topics, including social media, his thoughts that U.S. President Donald Trump is an “asshole.” and more.
