Northlane penned a tribute to late Architects guitarist Tom Searle on their new album, “Mesmer“. The band surprise released that effort last week. Yesterday (March 28th) they revealed during a fan Q&A that the song “Paragon” was written for Searle, who passed away last August after a lengthy battle with cancer. Northlane guitarist Josh Smith commented:
About a week after Tom Searle passed @jondeiley called me a told me we had to write a tribute song for him. I wanted to as well #mesmer

it was an extremely hard thing to do because we wanted it to live up to his stellar talent for songwriting #mesmer

the lines in Paragon that aren't Tom's lines or reappropriations of his lyrics are from "architects" by Rise Against

The lyrics for the track can be found below:
The last of our martyrs seeks no adoration
From his castle in the air of eternal vibration
We won’t lose sight of the lasting words he wrote
We won’t lose sight of what matters mostA shining beacon of wisdom
Armed to the teeth
fearless conviction
Now that he’s gone we’re going to miss himImmortalised between the lines
Conceived by a human heart insideHe once said to us, my friend hope is a prison
But the hope his chords sung only spread love In a hollow crowned kingdomThere are no fighters left here anymore
See you on the other side of that open doorWe wont lose sight
We wont lose sight
Of the lasting words he wrote
We won’t lose sight of what matters most
