Blackguard have announced the departure of bassist Etienne Mailloux from their lineup. The group have enlisted Dave “Ablaze” Zinay as his replacement. Dave is the twin brother of the bands lead vocalist, Paul. You can read their statement on that and more below:
“Alright everyone!
- Advertisement -We’re less then a week away from our North American tour with Metsatoll / Finntroll and we have a couple of announcements.
First of all, given our extended set time for this tour we’ll be busting out some old favorites from our “Profugus Mortis” record that we haven’t played in while. A lot of people have been asking to hear these songs again and this is the perfect opportunity to give newer fans of the band a taste of the group’s musical roots.
In addition we’ll also be playing 3 new songs from our upcoming STORM release due out on Victory records in 2014 (exact release date TBA).
We want to encourage everyone to come out and get a taste of what’s to come from our new album. This is easily the best material the band has written to date and we can’t wait to unleash these songs live!
Now for some not so great news.
We are saddened to have to announce that long time Blackguard bassist Etienne Mailloux has decided to step down from his position with the band. There is no bad blood whatsoever and we wish Etienne all the best in his future endeavors.
If you happen to catch our set at the Trois-Riviere Metal fest last week you already know who will be filling his spot.
Joining us on bass will be Dave “Ablaze” Zinay, who some of you might recognize because…. he’s Paul’s twin brother.
Dave has previously played guitar for Montreal Sleaze rock band Psychotic 4 and we’re extremely happy to have a friend and extended member of the Blackguard family joining us.
Also, Lead Guitarist Louis Jacques will unfortunately not be joining us for this tour. Louis has been going through some ongoing medical issues over the past year and was advised by his doctors against leaving for any extended amount of time.
Joining us in his stead will be David “CaDaver” Gagne of Montreal Symphonic Black metallers Hollow (www.facebook.com/hollowcanada) and Your Last wish ( https://www.facebook.com/yourlastwishqc?fref=ts). We’ve known Dave for years and we’re looking forward to destroying stages with him across North America.
That’s it for now. We can’t wait to see everyone in November!
–BLACKGUARD“
