Trustfall have had their ups and downs in recent times and after parting ways with their vocalist Adam Morse, all eyes were drawing upon them as they worked on this release. The end result however, is a pleasing new direction for the band which sees them abandoning the more Pantera like traditional metal style they worked towards in the past, to instead now drive forward in a melodic more ambient new metal direction, that has close ties to acts like Tool, The Deftones and a touch of Ultraspank, without the electronic nuances.
Using slightly vulnerable, yet tormented vocals that resemble a cross between Ultraspank and Full Devil Jacket, new vocalist Ryan Potts steps up to the plate ready to swing and although the shoes that were left for him to fill were large, they seem to fit quite snugly. Meanwhile, the guitars riffs bubble upwards underneath the spoken parts, with a melodic blend of serene effects, new metal dynamics and emocore harmony, crafting an intriguing sonic glaze that comfortably coats the aggressive basslines and clockwork like percussion much like gloves do hands in cold weather.
Despite the pressure and drastic changes the group have gone through, they have emerged for the better and the sound documented on this release is sure to win the band over many new fans, even if it does turn away a few from the past. With humble honesty, dynamics as scaling as a mountain range and the acceptance of a broader emotional scope, the band have created something that although is still somewhat in its infant stages, shows much promise and if cultivated correctly, will surely take them to great heights.
