Trustfall - Bright
Trustfall's music is a lumbering juggernaut of aggression leaving nothing but destruction in it's path, drenched with venomous vocals, demolishing guitar riffs, piston like drum work and grumbling basslines "Bright" fails to disappoint. The band is comparable to Staind or SimpLe with a dash of hardcore and modern riffs ala Deftones. Feverish guitars propel this band through the motions with grinding vocals and constantly shifting song structure bringing up the rear. Vocals courtesy of Adam are scorching with vibrantly coarse screams and gritty verse's plus searing refrained emotion that grabs the listener inside and wrenches out whatever it can grasp. Comparable to Staind's Aaron through the melodic parts and Vision Of Disorder's Tim during the explosive screams and guttural vocals Adam is extremely talented. He consistently mixes the two dynamics of his voice well with a mild use of overdubs, good restraint and skillful switching between tones when song parts call for it, the vocals are done well and in turn give the release a very polished feel. Guitar playing courtesy of Zachary is corrosive and almost combusts throughout the choruses and verses, quite a bit of variation is used throughout the songs and can almost blow up out of nowhere into a burst of pure distortion soaked adrenaline. Coaxing riff's are used to essentially lull the listener throughout down tempo'd parts but rapidly detonate into grinding auditory attacks crushing their victim with extreme tenacity. Hands down his most impressive ability is the way he switches a chord into a picked riff back to a chord all the while keeping the rhythm. Bass on the other hand is spiraling and although throughout most tracks it follows the trail blazed by the guitars, at times it does come out on it's own with groove heavy riffs that keep the tempo steady as well as almost bring the music slowly from a simmer to a boil. Drums are solid with a clockwork like precision, a good amount of cymbal work is used with alot of attention put to rumbling rolls and hammering drum kicks instead of repetitive snare hits as most drummers for heavier music do. Breakdowns are consistently spiced with tumbling tom hit's that adds a chaotic construction site background noise aura to the music. Song structure is proficient and possibly the bands strongest talent, they mesh counteracting parts with each other well combining them into a blueprint that actually has the instruments insulate each other keeping the groove and flow contained inside the structure. Standout tracks would be "Clear Faith" and "Standing Above", both tracks showcase the band's incendiary riffs and rabid breakdowns. Although downsides to the CD aren't really disappointing as much as they are a hindrance, there are a few that deserve mention, those being that the band does at times slow it down with a mid tempo song that grooves well, but the peak of their talent definitely lies within their fast paced material and almost makes the you wish the slower material would end quicker so you can jump back in the fray. Another con to the CD is the sometimes excessive use of hallowed screams, when overused a few times during the CD they almost negatively work against the progression of a song and a switching of dynamics or slowly drowning them to a lull would seem to work better. All in all though with vocals that feel as though they border on insanity and isolation, erupting guitars and a rock solid percussion section Trustfall is a force to be reckoned with. Rare is it that a band can seemingly come out of nowhere and blow away even the most jaded music critic, but Trustfall is exactly that. "Bright" is a must have for anyone who appreciates a genuine modern metal/aggrocore vibe with mild hardcore influences, intense dulling emotion and a bit of a rapcore edge. A CD this well put together is far and few between and although it might not be the most original or innovative blend of styles the band does what they do so well, you'll never be given the chance to notice.
