Throe's music ambitiously combines various elements and ideas, but in the end it could probably be best summed up as a cross between melodic alternative new metal and anger drenched rapcore. Enlisting crunchy guitar riffs, hoarse throated back up vocals and a front man who actively dabbles between melody, aggressive rapping and caustic screams, there's a little something for everyone included.
Vocally the album seems to draw heavily from Biohazard, as the back up vocals really bring to mind the distinct verbal energy that the aforementioned act pioneered. Yet this is merely one aspect of the vocals, as the slightly raspy voice of band front man sXe Joe chucks out words in rap styled patterns mixed with evil whisperings similar to Coal Chamber, before coming into its own with lung draining screams. Guitar work is a well balanced cross between Korn and Sevendust, combining intelligent melody and deeply dug distorted crunch with intricate squeals and ambiance that is fortified by the use of effects. Meanwhile the bass is slightly downtuned and incorporates a vague funk touch now and then, though for the most part it tends to align itself with the guitar while the drums fearlessly pound out large roomy beats littered with cymbal hits.
Musically its hard not to draw comparisons as the band seemingly borrow heavily from groups like Sevendust when it comes to the basis of their verse riffs, yet they do manage to mix it up occasionally with some originality. Still, their combination is something that does have its own merits, even if it doesn't seem to feel as though any new ground is being broken. With a slight mix of hardcore, rapcore and new metal making up the bulk of the material included here, it will be hard for the band to differentiate themselves from the crowd. Even though they do accomplish what they set out to do, there's just too many bands doing something similar to make this release stand out and warrant multiple listens. But all negativity aside, the fact is that they are a solid band that have the talent to do whatever they set their mind to and hopefully in the future they will have broadened their horizons enough to allow them to create something that is truly moving and will be reflected upon by other bands for inspiration, instead of things being the other way around as they are now.
