Taproot - Upon Us
This album should be titled Greatest Hits. Because featured on this are highlights of material
from the now discontinued ...Something More Than Nothing, Mentobe as well
as 3 new songs. I'll leave the old material to my past reviews and get straight to the beef. The
new material is nothing short of astounding, it's melodic and soothing yet virulent and haunting
in the same breath. On this album Taproot truly set themselves apart from the pack and
should squash all naysayers opinions with the 3 blistering new tracks. Words cannot describe the
colorful effects and almost restrained tormented vocal sounds. The instruments all interlace
together like a completed puzzle. The use of sampling is a bit more evident in the new material
another thing also more prevalent is the lush verse's that encompass the release. To find such a
refined use of dynamics and aggression that can fade to an almost remorseful tone in an instant
all the while seamless in a band is something thats few and far between. Lyrically the album is
stronger than past releases and the positive element is still there. All in all if you've slept on
Taproot in the past this album is the recruitment call for new fans. What more can I say
other than this is a must have release.
