Swoozy - swoozydemonstration
Even in the underground scene, most people have never heard about Swoozy. I asked loads of people about them, and their answers were always "I have no idea who that band is." or "Swoozy? What the hell is that?" So let me be the first to tell you, Swoozy is a badass band. Their sound can most closely be compared to what Far used to do back in the day of Tin Can With Strings To You, although it should be noted that the band is a bit more heavier during the aggressive parts, which I would say is caused by not only heavier guitar riffs, but also on Noah's vox. His voice ranges from a melodic tone which can sound a bit like Sunny Day Real Estate's singer, Jeremy Enigk, to screams that really express his own style. He screams with more treble than the other "screamers". It seems weird when you read it, but I think people would like it. Guitar work is really interesting, the riffs created by the band really stick to the ear of the listener like gum. Noah's riffs can sometimes sound like what Far used to do, but on the other hand they sometimes like what a heavier crossover band would do. Bass lines mostly follow the guitar work, but bass player Matt Wiest impresses by the power that comes from the bass in the songs. Drums are well-played by Matt Adkins, and have some interesting parts, but nothing outstanding. Swoozy stand above other bands that we call "emo" because of the nice touch of percussion they use in their songs, which gives them an extra flavor of emotion. Lyrics are also a good feature of this band. Noah's poetry can hit you hard in the brain, especially when the lyrics are accompanied by his powerful voice. It's difficult to choose a standout track when the album has only 3 songs, and all 3 are good. Even being like that, I still think that the track which really caught my attention is Beauty of the Physical, not only because of the power of the instrumental work and Noah's voice, but also because of the beautiful lyrics. Some downsides would be about the "not so good" production this CD has, and it's cover art, which could be a little better, but those aren't really that terrible problems. Something that stand out on Swoozy's cd, if you're a fan of emo music, is that the band doesn't focus only on the singer's voice, as loads of emo bands do. Their music is definitely creative and good. Fans of Far, Failure and emo music in general should keep an eye out for this band. Swoozy is appearing timidly in the scene as a promise of hope, a true band that isn't a copycat of others and just keeps it real creating their own emotional music and beautiful poetry.
