S.H.i.N.E. - Flow Demo
S.H.i.N.E. is one of those bands that you just know will develop into something great. The CD is a bit under produced something that can't be held against the band but it showcases their ideas well. The band easily grasp's alot of talent, I can't really compare it to anything, it's a breed of rapcore with a very laid-back style that is very grooveheavy floating over spiraling basslines. Songs like "Enzyme" and "30 Dayz Phayzed" are very well done and really hit heavy with a laid back groove. Turntables are a part of the mix and are used enough to keep the music crisp and not saturate it. Effects are used guitarwise to keep everything experimental and fresh and Vocals are done very well, the main vocalist Jacob has a unique flow it's somewhat comparable to old Papa Roach but the way he pauses after spitting out a rhyme and just let's the words hang really accentuates the music and gives it an interesting flair as well the vocals are more focused and contain alot more soul and melody. I like the band alot and they do have something unique going on, the downfall is though that this CD sounds like it was recorded when the band first got together in it's infancy stages. The music isn't a tight woven wall yet but it's close, it seems at times like the members are more concentrated on playing their own part. This though is something that happens at the start of any band and will be cleared up as the band gets more comfortable as I'm sure they have already. S.H.i.N.E. is a band that is ripe with talent, they are definitely onto something unique and something that works well, with time on their side the band can only get better and with a little luck will be a band you hear more and more good things about in the future. I look forward to hearing what they do next and definitely recommend keeping an eye out for these guys.
