Compilation CD's almost always suffer some perilous fate, whether they be too scattered, too focused on one certain genre or just generally put together without much thought, they are almost destined to never really hit home. Fortunately, "Redefine The Rockstar Volume 3" doesn't directly fall victim to any of these fates and succeeds at least at one thing, offering a look into various styles of music and showcasing them with a multitude of genres being touched upon so people can actually be exposed to new music they normally wouldn't find elsewhere.
There's the traditional punk/hardcore stylings of No Redeeming Social Value, the pop punk flair of F.O.C.U.S., the almost Red Hot Chili Peppers reminiscent The Doomsday Machine and then the balls out modern metal display of heaviness from acts such as Cut.Love.Kill and Bombjack. While these styles of music will no doubt interest the youth of today, there's also material more inclined for conservative tastes like the ethereal contribution from ENIS that shows shades of Failure, or the Jane's Addiction like gypsy river.
Although on paper this all would make up for a great compilation, unfortunately the bulk of the bands included here aren't exactly the most talented and although the introduction to new avenues of music can make this disc a worthy purchase for the open minded, the rough feel of their contributions overall will turn away anyone who is looking for a completely satisfying listen, but this isn't necessarily an dissapointing disc, rather a peephole into what is going on in the local clubs across America.
