A progressive blend of space rock and post rock, Quitter combine gracefully weathered emotion with serenely crafted soundscapes to create a brand of music that is inherently captivating. Intelligently constructed and filled with meaningful lyrical content, the songs are beautiful melancholic experiences that bring to mind the likes of Radiohead, Failure and more, yet they retain their own sense of identity through the bands thoughtful usage of driving song structures and wide ranging instrumentation.
A powerful vocal performance becomes the tip of the sonic movement, utilizing delicate croons, hopeful verses and empowering choruses to literally sweep the listener away. With a somewhat Thom Yorke of Radiohead like sensibility, band frontman D. Scott's contributions become an integral part of the bands music as their earnest nature is unquestionably one of the main reasons why the music works out so well. Lightly distorted guitar riffs and haunting ringing notes also add considerable weight to the bands momentum and with a wealth of varied techniques such as acoustic strumming and even some slide playing on hand, the aural palette from which the band dabble is considerably vibrant. Bolstered by confident, roomy bass lines that swoop in and out with calculated precision, the slightly dulled drumming included is left ample room to punctuate the tracks with a humble percussive force that pays close attention to restraint and generating intrigue through pauses and methodical buildups. A considerable amount of string based flourishes also add their own portion of depth and range to the tracks and ultimately make them all the more encompassing and rich.
The bands ability to write song structures of such an epic quality is truly what sets them apart from the pack and when combined with the talented layered musicianship and the grandiose feel of which their music contains, its almost uncanny at how strongly composed and cogent their material is. The consistent inclusion of stringed instruments such as violins along with some electronic based experimentation go far to broaden the scope and intensity of the material and also really manage to convey the kind of downtrodden, pained emotion which the group exude. Such a venerable writing style is as always a double edged sword however as the music generally appeals to a higher caliber of taste to be fully appreciated and will likely turn off many casual listeners as a result. They may not be for everyone but Quitter are still a charming listen and a group whose music will be enjoyed for sometime to come as intelligence, creativity and art are rarely bridged this skillfully in today's current scene.
