Pressure 4-5's brilliant evolution continues as this demo clearly documents. This time around the band have gone through quite a few changes song writing wise and their usage of dynamics and melody is enthralling as they barrel through the tracks with no remorse. Their first effort established the band in the Korn influenced side of the musical world, but with the material included here, they effortlessly break those constraints and move into a realm of music that is near the caliber of the ever legendary Helmet. Yet rather than be a clone, the harmony included here is more overblown and there's a healthy portion of modern metal influences making them sound like progressive System Of A Down/Helmet hybrid.
The vocal portion of the disc does certainly bring to mind a softer edged version Helmet's Page Hamilton and Quicksand, but with a broader vocal range and modern overtones that appeal to the listeners of today. Subtle melody erupts into assertive screams, but rather than sound outlandish and spill all over the place, restraint is used and ensures that vocals fit snugly in their place and reach their full potential. Guitars are rugged and use sharp punchy riffs to propel songs forward with ample hook and intensify them with dissident plucks that can bring to mind System Of A Down. Graceful even while in a provoked state they serve their purpose well and become one of the most prevalent elements within the music. Bass is downtuned to a subdued rumble and generally synchronizes with the guitar riffs, taking on the bulk of the rhythmic duties and enhancing them with a roomy depth, and heavy handed percussive technique. Drums are moderately tuned and firmly hit with an on point playing style that keeps time and sets the pace and is only heightened by the ample snare variation and straight forward playing style.
It's impressive to see a band create music that hits home on so many levels and still maintains the ability to sound truly passionate, not to mention while accomplishing this they have also almost practically reinvented themselves in the process. The style represented on this demo is definitely a huge step forward for the band overall and the music they've created will easily stand the test of time. With a sound that appeals to fans of the older post NY hardcore sound and still has enough new metal edge to feel fresh and cutting edge, it's not hard to see that this band is well on their way to the top and rightfully so. Things do sound a little bit rough around the edges as a whole, but the 3 tracks here are still unique and moving enough to make this demo come highly recommended. Pressure 4-5 are obviously not feeling too much pressure as they bloom and blossom into a powerhouse band that is sure to rocket their way to the top of the underground scene. With material this strong that preys equally on both sides of the emotional spectrum, perhaps the only pressure felt will be that of the listener as they take in this dosage of spiked auditory adrenaline.
