Pimps - Pimps
Pimps is Brazil's new promise, after the country shown the world kick ass bands, within all types of metal music, such as Sepultura, Soulfly, Angra, Overdose and Viper. Their self-titled promo CD, released in march of 98, is excellent when you consider it a totally independent production. The only problem is that 3 songs (plus a video file) aren't enough to satisfy a fan of this music style. These songs are so intense they'll make your ears bleed. Pimps has gained my respect as fast as a cannon ball for their wise lyrics and aggressive music. "Number", the opening track, is the worst song, even though it is great. Korn influences are evident in this song, specially because of Rod's vocals. The second song, "Whatever You Want", shows a softer band, yet it maintains their usual aggressiveness. Rod demonstrates his strong throat on this music's chorus. Despite this, the most aggressive track, "Brainwashed", was my favorite. Rod once more appears as a great singer, showing rap skills on a small part of the song. The song's instrumental parts are very solid and this labels them as a synchronized group. The additional video file is part of the song "Harmless" and is an edited live show recorded at Salvador. It samples, yet in a vague way, how their shows seem to be: INTENSE. I barely can't wait 'till they come to my town. If you're into pimp rock, this is the right CD. It incredibly combines price and quality.
