To put it bluntly, Florida's Order By Chaos are survivors. Where so many other bands have packed it in this group have continued on and that alone deserves praise. Initially coming to the public's eye as a solid rapcore group in the mid to late 90's, the band have survived crucial line-up changes and stuck together throughout the years, even with the pressures and financial strain often faced by being an independent band. Pairing up with SOiL guitarist Shaun Glass and Chris Djuricic in a production and mixing capacity on this demo, the band have solidified and evolved their sound yet again, this time moving into a more traditional rock meets modern metal oriented direction.
While their last demo saw them heading in a cyber-electronic metal direction, this offering instead finds the group doing a u-turn to embrace the dynamic qualities of melodic metal, putting a much stronger emphasis on guitar interplay and haunting choruses and verses. The song writing reflects this change by taking on a serpentine, almost progressive flair that adds a distinct amount of depth to the material which was lacking before, while also exhibiting a stronger focus and a vague shades of classic metal influence. Don't be mistaken however, there are still plenty of moments of outright metal intensity present with bellowing screams and chunky riffs doing their best to tear the listeners face off.
On the whole this disc represents yet another evolution for the band as it finds them slowly branching away from their electronic undercurrents, which are still somewhat present, and jumping into a more organic brand of rock meets metal. As such they seem to instinctively tip their hat to their influences of days past and it shows, such as the "Dr. Feelgood" gone modern riff present on "Face Down". Indeed a somewhat unexpected turn for the band to take but in retrospect it seems far more comfortable than some of their past incarnations and while they still feel decidedly rough around the edges and unsure on this outing, its more than likely just some simple growing pains holding them back that they will easily conquer on their next release.
