Lylah - Flawless (All The World To Me)

Lylah have certainly come a long way. Comparable to bands like the Deftones or the Foo Fighters back in the day, the band have now reached a level where no other bands spring to mind when listening to their songs. Thankfully. Lylah has matured enough to develop their own identity. While some hard-headed people would be quick to judge them, saying that the band has sold out to a more accessible style, the truth is, Lylah's music has passed through a hard and meticulous refinement process, that polished every possible rough edge, and the final result is worth more than any 82K diamond. Their influences are still the same, but their music is not limited to what has been done so far. They timidly found a way to reinvent their rock music by cleverly mixing the 90's indie rock, brit pop and alternative genres with the 80's pop sensibility, resulting in a combination of the best from both decades in one unique product that truly transcends the definition of beauty.

Produced by Steve Kravac, who in the past has worked with bands such as Blink 182, Madhops and Less Than Jake, Lylah's newest maxi-single, "Flawless (All The World To Me)" could not have a more clever title, since the songs featured on it are truly without flaws. The tight meshing of the music and how every note hit builds upon each other to construct a skyscraper of emotion makes Lylah one of a kind. Backed up by lyrics that are nothing but true declarations of unconditional love and adoration, this band's music is far from anything generic. Norman's vocals are quite peculiar and unique, though they can bring to mind GlassJAw's Daryl's voice, but in a vague way. His voice is certainly one of the band's most powerful weapons, especially because he knows how to use it like few people can, creating extraordinary vocal melodies that are spoken with perfect harmony, yet never trying to hit notes than higher than his vocal chords can handle. The piano here is also very special and certainly a main piece of Lylah's music. The way this band mixes the piano into their music is breathtaking, every note of the instrument adds more to the passionate climate it carries and it's certainly one of the band's most intriguing and appealing facets. Even though every song has it's own identity and the are slightly different from each other, they all have that unmistakable Lylah touch - Norman's enchanting voice, J's hypnotic guitar riffs and a heavenly piano - that turns them into gold....

The main aspect on Lylah's music that grabs my attention is the huge amount of passion exuded while they perform their songs. They aren't trying to look or sound like tough guys who will eat or torture you while you're sleeping; they're just 4 individuals who play music simply for the love they feel for that form of art, and quite frankly, that's what people need to do more often. The world urgently needs more music like this; passionate, intriguing, beautiful....... glorious. Lylah has become a band that in the future will be called upon as one of the precursors of a new way to write and compose music, ignoring every cliche and just letting the chords flow from the only place that matters: the heart.
