Quietly bubbling underneath the surface of their native Australian scene, King Mungi should have no trouble turning heads if given the proper exposure as their punchy modern metal sound brings to mind a more aggressive and less pop influenced version of current Welsh hopefuls, The Losprophets.
Rife with lock tight song structures and rapid fire grooves the bands emotive take on modern metal is both hungry and invigorated, showcasing some stunning melodies and empowered screams on tracks like "Languish" and even going so far as to burst into slightly rap oriented verses on others, which despite the styles lingering expiry date, still remain surprisingly catchy.
Arguably at their best during their more melodic/aggressive moments however, the bands music is far more entertaining without any urban influence present as it finds them putting their own spin on the current new metal guidelines and adding a harder edge, giving it a bit more urgency in comparison to the diluted melancholy of the melodic metal that has since begun to take nu-metal's place. All positives aside though, "Fear The Little People" is still a hit and miss affair that suffers from treading the waters of a saturated genre as the bulk of material included here does sound a tad cliche and could easily turn many away if certain tracks were only heard first, but all in all, it is still a promising first step.
