An eclectic blend of modern metal, Italian based GF93 take the nu-metal crunch of Korn, the melodic angst of The Deftones and the off the wall color of fellow Italian metallers Linea 77, combine it with some mild industrial overtones and let the musical tornado loose with violently heavy breakdowns and surprisingly melodic interludes.
Interesting and undeniably experimental the band can bring to mind a number of acts in any given song and yet never one in particular, a good sign in this day and age as most bands settle for following directly in the footsteps of others. With driving bass lines, crunchy staccato guitar riffs and a schizophrenic vocal performance that jumps from enraged screams to heavily Italian accented rap styled passages and detached melodies, this group let little restrain or restrict them and the music comes off with a wealth of vibrance and integrity as a result.
A guest appearance from Patrik Wiren of Misery Loves Company fame is present on the track "Eight Years", but this really adds up to little in the end as the band fully take charge of the record and keep the listener fixated on what they will do next. A busy and consistently heavy affair, the group incorporate traces of so many styles into one explosive aural fireball that it's hard to avoid being at least singed by their passion and integrity. Sure their ambition gets the better of them at times and the songs are generally strewn together, but their have heart in the right place and their determination usually helps them overcome and leave the listener satisfied in the end. It's not the most cognitive effort and it may borrow from some all too familiar elements, but "Convulse All Star" still manages to impress if not for its creativity, then its risks taken, making it a worthy listen that should turn heads if the band can get properly exposed.
