Sounding like the abused siblings of Hatebreed, Full Blown Chaos have begun to realize and define their sound with this full-length release. Aided by the crisp production of Zeuss (Shadows Fall, God Forbid), the band willfully unleash wave after wave of bruising metalcore mixed with shredding death overtones as they tackle a variety of topics, all the while remaining confrontational rather than inspirational.
It is by no surprise that these boys hail from New York as their sound draws heavily from the 'tough guy' NYHC scene of days past. Aural pummeling's cemented by deft drumming, virulent riffs and throaty barks are the groups preferred weapons of attack and through breakdown after breakdown, they quickly begin to leave a trail of devastation. But while the bands roots lie in the now traditional formula of modern metalcore, the way they inject a death metal aesthetic through shredding riffage and dark atmosphere clearly gives them an edge above their peers.
Of course by exercising the fundamentals of metalcore the band exude a taxing amount of repetition with nearly every track included becoming a veritable stampede with no time for introspection or remorse. Innumerable breakdowns are also tossed in for good measure as the band do their best to keep their audience bloodied. Much like most metalcore though, there is little variation and the onslaught offered here, while steadily fierce, eventually becomes a jagged blur of chugging metal. There's no doubt that "Wake The Demons" is the perfect music to hone one's spin kicks to in the pit, but without the live environment that this genre thrives on, the material offered here may leave the listener needing a wake up call as well by the time the halfway mark hits.
