Everything For Some (E.F.S) release their first single for which to endear fans and labels alike and with that criteria in mind prove capable of doing so. At just three songs long it represents the better of an already established repertoire, and the tracks laid down here benefit from immaculate production.
A blend of rock and rap with social conscience propels this debut with fierce intensity.
Opener 'What U Need To Know' and 'Life Of Lies' have a distinct Rage Against the Machine feel with thumping drum beats, pounding bass lines and fiery vocals that expel frustration in a subject mater that touches upon social and economic issues encapsulated by lines such as "elitist propaganda drilled into the minds of our young, taught to hate contrast, the belief of a society built on class". The vocals vary from whispered spoken word to all out screaming not to unlike Chino Moreno at his most inaudible. For the most part though they have a battle call quality that sits between rapping and burst of anger.
As if to prove there is more to the band than straight laced anger 'Life Of Lies' is a more emotive rally call that reads like an anti establishment handbook where the singer justifiably boils over into a raucous chorus. Final track 'How Long?' moves away from the rage inspired sounds and adopts a far more fresh and kinetic sounding approach that brings to mind Detroit's much missed 20 Dead Flower Children with its blasts of progressive beats that show them to be creative, rather than mere opportunists.
E.F.S are a band that have much to say and while they may have to deflect some criticism of their likeness to Rage, the band are much more than just clones, and proves that Limp Bizkit isn't the limit of intelligence that the metal and alternative rock world must succomb to.
