Zero-Sum Recordings have been doing their best to shine the spotlight on what Texas currently has to offer and Dryline are the latest to step into the glow. A highly competent metalcore outfit in the line of As I Lay Dying and Killswitch Engage, the band go out of their way to ensure mosh pit violence and broken guitar strings will remain a staple of metal scene.
With a rather concise vision Dryline approach their songs with a seething amount of ferocity as towering breakdowns, chugging riffs and rigid double-kick drumming go at it like a bulldozer demolition derby. Furthermore, by utilizing a number of prolonged tempo shifts and the occasional searching melodic vocal in favor of the sappy emo whine, the music keeps up an entertaining pace.
Ultimately though, it is hindered largely by the fact that despite all of its accomplished chops and fluid songwriting, it sounds pretty much like every thing else out there. The glass ceiling for the metalcore genre appears to be bulletproof, for as of late, no young up and comers have been able to punch through it and sadly Dryline are no different - at least for now.
