Dissolute - Demo

Do you like REAL heavy music? Have 5 dollars in your wallet? Get this cd NOW, and I mean NOW. Dissolute is probably the heaviest band I've heard on the last couple of years. Since Pantera's "The Great Southern Trendkill" I haven't listened to something so pure of agression. It's amazing how this guys transmit agressiveness and angryness through their music. This metal three-piece can at times sound like some hardcore metal bands like Earth Crisis or Hatebreed, yet keeping it original to their own tribal style. Dissolute is a side project of Mike, bassist and vocalist of the rap/groovecore band Uncle No. I gotta say God blessed this guy. While in Uncle No he sings with an extremely groovy voice, in Dissolute his screams reminds me of some "Face Of Death" films I saw, when people are yelling at their final minute. Mike's voice can be compared to Earth Crisis' singer; really intense and harsh, yet not sounding like those horrible death metal bands. Guitars are insane. It's distorted sound scratches your ears hard almost making them bleed. Bass lines are extremely creative. Actually, the bass is definitely something that outstands in this record. Mike abuses of his creativity, almost always doing lines different from the guitar notes, something that most of the bands don't or can't do today. Drummer Jason impresses by how fast he can beat his kit. A total tribal sound comes from it, adding much more heavyness to the songs. Also, lyrics are extremely conscious. I gotta say I really like what this band's doing here. Lyrics like Kill Cycle (which talks against death penalty and abortion) can make you stop and think through the whole day about it's theme. That's probably why I like this song the most in the whole album. It's heavy, agressive and conscious, not the usual "I hate you! You're going to die!" shit, which can sounds completely understandable to it's writer, but is really nonsense to the listener. Not far behind are Real T.V. and Head Above Water, 2 other songs with the same recipe. Purpose is not really a bad song, but I think lyrics are a bit too harsh (Your closed mind results from your ignorance. One man against the world equals absolute failure.) Downsides are that songs can sometimes sound like the same, thanks to it's unique recipe. Maybe the band should try add a little singing here and there without letting aside the band's intensity, since Mike can't only yell, but that's something that should be thought before considered, since the band's music seems to be exactly what they wanted to accomplish. Dissolute's agressiveness and intensity is something to be reckoned with. These guys can go places if they continue doing this harsh music they do. Definitely not for the fragile ears.
