Cum - Cum

Cum combine the hearty crunch of a Korn inspired new metal with 80's synth pop styled rhythms and add in a few industrial overtones to create music that fits within the confines of the burgeoning new genre known as "Death Pop" similar to acts like Deadsy and Orgy.

Ominously detached lyrics with a slightly whiny pitch hold onto notes as entrancing electronic ambient loops lurch in the background before being gouged by crunchy distorted guitar work that has about the same effect of a bulldozer hitting a building. Heavy at times, yet sugar coated and alienating at others, the group possess the ability to craft melodic rhythms that do showoff able musicianship while also sounding friendly and basic with a few throwbacks to the 80's. Yet it's definitely not all roses in the Cum camp as there is a new age gothic influence prevalent in the material and although the lyrics don't drone on and bring you down, the music is probably not best recommended for the average metalhead. But with their large roomy song structures and ample punchy riffs, this band slowly begin to win the listener over with charm and grace.

An interesting collage of sounds is achieved and even though it isn't anywhere near the level of a mind-blowing musical voyage that electronic groups have created in the past, the performance captured here seems fitting, giving a sort of humble well worn feel. The vocals however could use some work, although their slightly weird pronounciation of words and overall sound could be a result of the band being located in Finland. But aside from it all, even though it may turn you off at first, give them a few listens and you might find yourself grooving along with it or you might be cringing, but whatever the case may be, we can all be thankful that bands still at least have the balls to try something different.
