Crawlblind come crashing in with a riff as heavy as anything on Sepultura's 'Roots' album with vocals reminding me of Pulkas front man Luke Lloyd. Being a big Sepultura fan and also of the now sadly demised Pulkas this certainly is enough to get me excited. The band are from the U.K. but have already made a name for themselves further a field, as they reached the
semi-finals of the Streetwise Street fight competition last summer.
Much of this record sees singer Jon switch from hoarse screams to more melodic singing, although, the music is firmly rooted in heaviness rather than a melodic standpoint. What impresses me about this record, and also something that I feel will develop more in the future, is the fact that this band have more to their artillery than just all out aggression. This is most apparent in the shape of "Everyone Gets Sick" which wouldn't be out of place on the new Cold album with it's ballad like feel and it shows that the band are capable of so much.
Crawlblind seem to be achieving what many of their metal peers took years to refine, one listen to "Envy" and you may feel like you've heard this before and you'd probably be right as it bares an uncanny resemblance to Nothingface's "Can't Wait For Violence" but Crawlblind put this record out long before, so there's food for thought.
For a band to unleash 11 songs of this quality at such an early stage in their career, makes you wonder what's in store next, and I for one will be keen to find out.
