Clown - ¿Pimp?
Clown's debut album is something that can be a bit of a disappointment, the reason being is that the band can somewhat be a chameleon as they took song structures from Deftones and
Korn songs and mixed them in with their own style. Now don't get me wrong here only
a very small percentage of the cd features this pattern. But the thing is they don't need to jack
those rhytmns at all, although the songs sound great even with the non-original riffs and they
don't fail to please the riffs and vocal patterns have been done before and it can detract from the
enjoyment. The truth is this band has talent out the ass and they really could be one of the
biggest names out there. The singer "Jabba" can do it all, from busting a smooth anger
riddled rap to screaming at cathartic high pitches to the low growling rumble's and the
tormented remorseful mumble’s, his voice is definitely one of the most moving out there, at
time's he can sound exactly like "Jon Davis" of Korn, "Chino" from
the Deftones and "Zach De La Rocha" of Rage Against The Machine.
The band also features two drummers which can really enhance the percussion as
"Nacho" is on the basic kit and "Tom" is on the electronic kit as well as
acoustic percussion. This makes for complex drum beats and alot of big bass hits as well as a bit
of industrial style mixing in at times but nothing to severe. The song's on this cd where the band
really focus their energy and don't use other bands musical patterns are as intense as this genre
can get and this cd is definitely a treat for the ear. One only wonders though why Korn
or the Deftones didn't get a shoutout in the thanks section. The cd also contains one of
the most funny hidden songs I have ever heard, basically it's two jackass pimps working at a
radio station interviewing the band and it has to be heard to be fully felt but it is nothing short of
hilarious. If this band can grow out on their own and expand their musical influences as well as
not use other bands riffs and vocal structures they could easily be one of the big heavy weight
contenders of the genre especially if the new material they have been releasing recently on their
website is any indication, but until then they won't get the respect from diehard fans of the other
bands and won't get the respect they could be deserving. This cd would be rated a 5 but for the
use of the other band’s riffs and vocal structures and not even a credit to the bands I dock a
mark.
