On their Equal Vision debut "All's Well That Ends Well" MI's Chiodos deliver much of what has come to be expected of a band who predominantly travel in the 'screamo' circles. Their music is disheveled, animated and buoyant with youthful energy, while also prone to bouts of emphatic tunefulness and metal-driven outbursts.
Much of the material here takes shape as jagged concoctions of keys, syrupy emo moaning and brute screams that throw everything they have into a melting pot and hope for the best. There is an element of control to the material on hand to be sure, but the rampant obsessive-compulsiveness and eclectic structures don't take long to wear out their welcome.
While it's admirable that the group are intent on mixing things up and avoiding the all-out commercial route; that's not to say that they have created a memorable album in doing so. There's a distinct sense of insecurity present in the songs that keeps the band from ever excelling or hitting a stride. Instead they bang out a chaotic mish-mash of the likes of The Used, My Chemical Romance and older Underoath that falls flat more than anything else.
