Between the Ivory have taken the blueprint of 'Deftones - Adrenaline', placed it in a melting pot, and created one of the finest records of the year. Like 'Adrenaline' the album effortlessly creates that laid back vibe synonymous with the west coast, and the album beautifully captures that "calm before the storm" feel. Many of the songs are bass led and the vocals are vulnerable in nature which all adds to the atmosphere, and the mood injected vocals on songs like 'Caught Slippin' and 'Asleep' prove that Chino Moreno can be beaten at his own game.
The band step up a gear on 'Wasp', with its relentless mosh pit driven riff that could strip paint from walls. Compare this to the sultry tones of 'Asleep', reminiscent of deftones fireal, and your realize this band can touch you in two very different ways as they go from one spectrum of emotions to another. As the band explore vast sound scapes, the singer flirts with wistful introspection and bouts of fury as he bellows his way through each song. You won't find catchy hit singles, but what you will find is far more rewarding. This is a piece of art that deserves to
be treated with the upmost respect.
