Breach of Trust - Songs For Dying Nations
Breach Of Trust cleave a wide horizon of musical integrity and imprint it with a distinctly unique sound on this release where empowering grooves and solid musicianmanship collide with honest emotion and ripened atmospheric song structures that refresh like a breath of fresh air. Powerful and confident, this group brings about something pure and untouched, a sound not affected by the Korn's and Limp Bizkit's, in fact if forced to be described, this group could seemingly be taking over where groups like Soundgarden left off and melding it with a shade of Staind. Muddy yet effective the band has a humble and truthful aura to it that doesn't try to front or be something they aren't, instead they shovel out musical passion that feels as natural as the earth itself. Vocally a slightly raspy tone leads the songs forth like a lantern in a dark cave, the band charges forth behind the steadfast vocals which drip with self assurance and expel calmed aggression and melody. Seemingly lost in himself, main vocalist Marty expels his demons and the results of his self questioning while keeping a grounded spiritual footing. Screaming is barely present, and sullen emotion also takes a backseat here, and yet the potent vocals still have enough force to send the listener reeling and that is what easily put this band a notch above most of the competition. Guitars are sharp and clever, spiky riffs slice through the speakers with skill and consistent structure. Their strong suit is easily the grating verse riffs that could be comparable to the sound of fabric tearing, yet they are also well versed in experimental textures and noises that are sonically challenging and somehow still manage to retain an organic inflection. Bass is tuned a bit low and as such provides the always necessary rumble, fattening up the riffs and filling in the gaps with well placed looming low end growls. Seemingly always looming in the background, it tends to serve as backup to the more prevalent guitarwork, but does fill out its role firmly. Drums are lively and spirited with an impressionable tuning that provides a dull thump and competent snarework that quietly resonates without being offensive. Continual highhat work and cymbal splashes accentuate and add the punctuation, while the all encompassing kit mastery injects a visceral and raw experience. Skilled beats and rolls hammer out with a relentless quality and the unique formation in which they are played makes them a definite treat for the ear. After a few listens to this disc, it's electricity and hearty qualities do not wear thin, the band constantly pushes itself in new directions creating a vast soundscape filled with numerous musical inhabitants, and the spiritual overtones only highlight this even more. Still, there seems to be a little something missing though as a few of the tracks don't try very hard to differentiate themselves from the others, while a few immediately stand out like a sore thumb. With a bit more diversity, the levels of success and the caliber of the music this band could achieve and conceive could be limitless. Breach Of Trust surprise the listener with a unique perspective and a vividly fresh sounding breed of music that's complexity is overshadowed only by its genuine sincerity and introspective content. The bands refuses to compromise or emulate anyone as they burst through the albums 10 tracks, and this is what makes them so enjoyable, there's no bullshit, no fronting to be hard or trying to sound like someone else, they rely only on their own prowess and create a soothingly vicious disc chockfull of music that will stand the test of time, and although their sound won't necessarily flourish on the jock rock dominated radio stations, this album still provides refuge from the diluted sound of mainstream loud music while astounding by nothing other than its own merit. Quite possibly one of the biggest sleeper hits ever released.
