When I interviewed Dimitri Of Dillinger Escape Plan back in November of last year, me, wanting to know the next hardcore gem to emerge asked for a tip on who to check out. "Burnt By The Sun" he replied, so it seems appropriate that months later, the Relapse Records debut of New Jersey's Burnt By The Sun should arrive in my mail box.
It is no greater surprise that the band share that same intensity, complex riffage and all out carnage of Dillinger Escape Plan. Where they do differ is in the delivery. Burnt By The Sun a little more relentless being equally unpredictable, yet with even stronger vocals.
This four song E.P comes in at just eight minutes total length, a mere taster before the band imminently unleash a full length. So, yet another New Jersey hardcore band with spiralling riffs and pace changes so hazardous there should be some kind of warning for those with a weak heart. Before you are even able to gather your senses and comprehend what just happened, the record comes to an abrupt ending which brings about an uneasy silence that will surely lead to you hitting the 'repeat' button. Summing up, this is probably the best way to spend eight minutes, its not as if you last that long in the bedroom now is it?
