Essentially a collection of songs comprised to promote the clothing company of Blink 182's Mark Hoppus and Tom Delonge, Atticus ...dragging the lake." is actually a surprisingly solid listen that contains a wealth of unreleased tracks from artists of various different genres. From the hardcore to post rock to emo to pop punk, post hardcore and more, there's a ton of unreleased material offered up here, making this record an interesting listen that just may expose some listeners to bands they normally wouldn't have heard of.
Without question the biggest attractions on this offering are the more commercial groups such as Blink 182, New Found Glory and more, but along with the larger name acts we are also given previously unreleased material from up and coming talented bands like Glassjaw, Rival Schools, The Used, Autopilot Off and more; Along with songs from the likes of Finch, American Nightmare, Jimmy Eat World and The Movielife. As such, this album manages to transcend the usual compilation trends by including artists from various walks of life while also assembling together some hard to get material that is actually worthwhile to listen to. Sure the premise of promoting a clothing company may sound suspicious, but despite the collections motives it is indeed refreshing to see that some effort was put into it. In fact, novice to intermediate fans of the punk/post hardcore/emo genre just might find something new they like served up here.
