Upon first listen to Aphid your think this is just another rap metal band. Problem is, you will go on thinking that as you listen to the three tracks on offer here. Singer Sanj is a competent rapper; actually he's quite good. His rapping is fluent and he can actually sing, with hints of Brandon Boyd coming through. The problem with this cd lies in both the production and the weak, somewhat, annoying guitar sound. I'm sure live these songs come through as being powerful, but on cd this simply doesn't happen. It never grabs you or excites you. It's hard to ignore this shortcoming, as it tends to overshadow any good aspects. However, if you can look past this some positive aspects shine through. 'Your Disease' is dynamic and tuneful with vocals drenched in emotion. The chorus turns things around with a fast frantic pace that Sanj's vocals thrive in. Easily the standout track on the cd it shows some nice ideas at play that attempt to break the mould. 'Am I Content' is equally as dynamic seeing Sanj rap, sing and unleash death metal grunts. The lyrics are intelligent and many will easily be able to relate to its angst. Bottom line is that this band has potential but they are severely let down by the guitar sound and ropey production. Once this can be rectified we will have a very exciting band on our hands.
