Notable Releases

A rundown of upcoming new releases.

The Learning Curve

The Learning Curve

The Learning Curve is a section of ThePRP dedicated to up and coming talented artists. We hear countless new bands each week and as such, we will be showcasing the cream of the crop here in this section. Updated regularly, a variety of bands will always be on display here for those who are looking for something new and fresh.

[the] K Word:
Founded in 2000, [the] K Word have successfully slid under most peoples radar despite a well received EP release and steady touring. With their latest self-titled EP hitting stores through Liquilab Records earlier this year and an ambitious touring schedule having been exercised since, the 'word' on the street looks likely to change in the coming months.

"Cesarean"

Falling Down:
Rising from the ashes of Abraid, these Tennessee based combatants wage war on the ills of society with a suffocating dose of progressive technical metal, complete with modern overtones. While still in their infancy in this current incarnation, the band still look to have all the force necessary to knock more than a few jaded metallers on their asses when they eventually reach full speed.

Official Website:
www.wintersleep.com
Label:
Dependent Music
Location:
Halifax, NS
Similar To:
Tortoise, dredg, Kary

Audio:
"Sore"
"Orca"

Wintersleep:
Kary's stunning 2001 release "The Sound Of Beauty Breathing" turned quite a few heads, but it seemed that the band disappeared off the face of the earth soon after it began to pick up steam. Enter Wintersleep, a project featuring various members of the aforementioned band splintering off in a different direction with the same minimalist ideals. Progressive, somber and lo-fi to it's core; Wintersleep's self-titled debut was released earlier this year and is a must for anyone who enjoys brains over brawn.

Official Website:
www.theagonyscene.com
Label:
Solid State Records
Location:
Tulsa, OK
Similar To:
Zao, In Flames, Cradle Of Filth

Mp3's:
"We Bury Our Dead At Dawn"
"Habeas Corpus"

The Agony Scene
Somehow, some way, Solid State Records consistently manages to find some of the most capable and talented metal and metalcore bands out there and The Agony Scene are no different. Armed with a new album produced by Adam Dutkiewicz of Killswitch Engage which will be released in June, this bands European influenced brand of venomous metal is sure to leave many a bloodied pit in its wake.

Official Website:
www.jetblacksummer.com
Label:
Lakeshore Records
Location:
Albuquerque, NM
Similar To:
Jane's Addiction, At The Drive-In, Sunny Day Real Estate

Audio:
"Ether"
"Faster"
"Megas"

Jet Black Summer:
With a full-length album in stores, videos in the works and a steady string of shows supporting many of today's current emo/hardcore darlings, Jet Black Summer are quite the busy band. A refined yet hungry take of indie rock fundamentals with empowering angular riffs, this band should have no problem clawing their way to the upper echelons of the current crop with the proper push behind them.
