Notable Releases

A rundown of upcoming new releases.

The Learning Curve

The Learning Curve

The Learning Curve is a section of ThePRP dedicated to up and coming talented artists. We hear countless new bands each week and as such, we will be showcasing the cream of the crop here in this section. Updated regularly, a variety of bands will always be on display here for those who are looking for something new and fresh.

Official Website:
www.orcaband.co.uk
Label:
Alaska Recordings
Location:
Plymouth, UK
Similar To:
Glassjaw, Funeral For A Friend, Hell Is For Heroes

Audio:
"Constants Collapsing"
"Hopes Ever Shifting"

Orca:
Orca began 2004 with the release of a two track CD which demonstrated a polished and melodic sound well beyond their current underground status. As dynamic as Funeral For A Friend and as punchy as current touring partners The Hurt Process, 2004 looks like the year Orca will stand up to be counted. With an EP scheduled for release in June and continued steady touring and radio play the band will no doubt see out the second half of the year on a high note.

Official Website:
www.jairusonline.com
Label:
Skipworth Records
Location:
Kent, UK
Similar To:
Hopesfall, From Autumn To Ashes, At The Drive-In

Mp3's:
"Ara Pacis"
"And Caligula Blushed"

Jairus:
If one thing can be said of this band, it is that they will never be outworked. Over the past two years they have played everywhere and anywhere they are welcome. It just so happens that they've been more than welcome in the length and width of Europe and now have Japan and America set in their sights before the year is out. Barely a month has passed since the release of debut album "The Need To Change The Mapmaker" and yet Jairus are stalwarts of the scene and unarguably at the forefront of UK hardcore. Gut wrenching and passionate the band employ discordant open riffage with a flowing drum sound and subtle electronica which brings to mind the sound of Beecher and adds a level of sophistication over all out noise.

Official Website:
www.texturesband.com
Label:
Listenable Records
Location:
Etten-Leur, NET
Similar To:
Meshuggah, At The Gates, Dark Tranquility

Audio:
"Swandive"
"Young Man"
"Polars"

Textures:
A brutal display of expansive Dutch metal, Textures do nothing but impress with their current album "Polars". Having already caught the ear of (and subsequently played gigs with) some of the metal scenes heavy hitters, including the likes of Sepultura, Machine Head and more; the group have now broadened their business side and are looking to take their punishing brand of intelligent metal worldwide.

Official Website:
www.intoeternity.com
Label:
Century Media Records
Location:
Regina, SK
Similar To:
Iron Maiden, Opeth, Dream Theater

Mp3's:
"Spiraling Into Depression"
"Splintered Visions"
"Beginning Of The End"

Into Eternity
Lets face it, sometimes great metal bands get lost by the wayside, never getting enough opportunities or exposure to really make their mark. Despite having already crafted a handful of impressive albums, Into Eternity still aren't a band discussed as much as they deserve. The fact that they hail from an obscure location in Canada must play a part in this, because the vicious blend of progressive death metal showcased on their excellent third release, "Buried In Oblivion", is worthy of nothing but praise.

Official Website:
www.thekissofdeath.net
Label:
Tribunal Records
Location:
Jim Thorpe, PA
Similar To:
Eyehategod, Neurosis, Pantera

Audio:
"Buck Rodgers Made Me Do It"

The Kiss Of Death:
Formed in part from the ashes of Turmoil, The Kiss Of Death are an unflinching foray into sludgey, lethargic metal mixed with hardcore undercurrents. Violent, unsympathetic and outright brutal, this is warts and all metal for anyone looking for some good old fashion blunt forced aural trauma.
