PRP: First of all, how did Controlled Aggression's members got together to form a band?
Brendan: We've been playing together for a while, We picked up Dan Bongiorno (formerly of Big Catholic Guilt) on guitar and Bryan Panzeri (formerly of Skingame) on drums. Ken Smith (Vocalist in Gangsta Bitch Barbie) was our former drummer, and Jim Foster (Guitars in GBB) was one of our former guitarist.
PRP: Who are in the band at all?
Brendan: Brendan Cheever - Bass/Vocals | Bob Bruni - Guitars | Dan Bongiorno - Guitars | Bryan Panzeri - Drums.
PRP: Why you decided to play the instrument you do, or, to sing? Anyone inspired you?
Brendan: The Partridge Family. I have all their albums.
PRP: How long have you guys been together as a band?
Brendan: About a year with this line up.
PRP: Any material released?
Brendan: Our original CD "White Trash Wins Lottery" circa 1996, then a demo CD called "Steep" circa 1997-98 and we are working on another EP yet to be titled.
PRP: How you got your name?
Brendan: When Ken Smith and I jammed long before we even knew how to play the instruments we were holding, we called ourselves "Controlled Aggression" as kind of a joke. It just kind of stuck from there on in.
PRP: How would you describe your band's sound to someone who has never heard you guys?
Brendan: Drive a Streetsweeper off the top of the John Hancock Building. When it hits, ...that's it.
PRP: How's the process of creating songs? Lyrics first, music second?
Brendan: Music is always a first, without a hook, you cant catch a fish.
PRP: How's the music scene there in MA?
Brendan: It's kick ass. About a year ago, we were trading off shows with Sully from Godsmack to give each other some exposure. Look at them now. It's really helping out the Boston scene. Look at the some other Bands we've shared stage time with: Powerman 5000, Staind, Reveille, Tree. Things are looking real good for the Boston area.
PRP: How you guys do to spread yourself out from the others?
Brendan: I wear deoderant.
PRP: Influences of the band?
Brendan: Ike Turner.
PRP: Best underground band out there, in your opinion?
Brendan: I dont know, what's the name of your band?
PRP: All Time favorite band?
Brendan: I think it's a tie between The Monkees and Dred Zeppelin.
PRP: What would be the tour of your dreams? Your band plus.... ?
Brendan: It would have to be Run D.M.C. and Alice in Chains.
PRP: Any big plans in the horizon?
Brendan: Quit my job and go on tour.
PRP: Last show you went?
Brendan: I went on a Booze Cruise with a couple hundred people. It was Gangsta Bitch Barbie, Tree, and Sam Black Church. All three bands kicked ass and I have never been to a show like that before, everyone was shitfaced and we had a great time.
PRP: Any shows booked or something?
Brendan: We have a few local shows booked right now, but we're trying to spend most of our time getting these new songs recorded and released. WAAF in Boston has been very supportive with the local bands, that's why I'd like to get some of the new material to them soon.
PRP: Anything you wanna add? Last comments?
Brendan: Why dont they make ketchup packets bigger? I could never understand that.
