  • God Forbid guitarist Doc Coyle recently checked in with a lengthy update regarding the bands recent touring and their plans for their next album.

Speaking on the latter, he offered the following:

“Now we immerse ourselves back in the writing process for the next God Forbid album for an unknown record label as our contact with Century Media has ended. It’s always difficult to tell how a new album will sound this early in the process, but I can say that our new guitar player Matt Wicklund is contributing tons of material.

His stuff is very hook oriented with a Scandinavian twinge. The stuff I’ve been writing has been varied from evil Morbid Angels, black metal shit to mid tempo/power groove Machine Head type stuff, and signature GF material that is a logical progression from our previous albums. The process has changed with all of the touring and space between members, there’s been more writing and demoing on our own.

I’m finally utilizing technology. It’s cool. I like it a little more than recording my out of time riffs into a tape recorder with my old Peavey practice amp. Now it’s Garageband, Line 6 tone port and EZ Drummer. I may yet still become a professional.”

God Forbid Officially Add Guitarist To Their Line-Up

    15.01.10 @ 2:01 pm Posted by wookubus

God Forbid have officially added guitarist Matt Wicklund (ex-Himsa) to their line-up. Wicklund had previously been filling in for Dallas Coyle, who exited the band early last year. Band frontman Doc Coyle had the following to say about his addition and the bands next album:

“This past fall and winter has been a refocusing period on a personal and business level for God Forbid figuring what the next phase of this band will be. Another announcement is that Matt Wicklund is our new guitar player. He relocated to New Jersey and immediately started contributing new material. Along with being a great guy, he fit in with all of us really well, and it seemed like a no brainer.

It’s hard to say what the new material will be like, but so far I can say it’s going to be very hook oriented, and obviously without Dallas, it will have a different vibe. Matt and I have very similar musical tastes, but he comes from a more trained background in theory which should create an interesting dynamic. He is also a very good lead guitar player, so there will probably be more solos. As soon as we do a new photo shoot, we will update all of our websites with Matt. We’ll see you on tour!”
