Taproot - ...Something More Than Nothing
Well, this cd is defintely an indie release as cover art is a bit sparse, But it is defintely one i anticipated and waited for and I wasn't let down at all, It starts out with the groove heavy rhythms of "Lowlife" which is akin to a Limp Bizkit style with a bit more focus on melody. Many of the songs slowly build you up on the almost etheral melodies just so you feel you can relax and then they let you come crashing down with loud distorted choruses and verses. Steve's restrained vocals & raps and unleashed screams really convey anger in a real to life way, theres no resorting to growling or other elements of anger. Alot of electronic influences and excellent use of sampling not to sparse but not to overpowering and good song composition as well as a bit of variety really tighten up this release. "Negative Rein4sment" has an almost downtuned reggae/rappish feel while songs like "Justice Is Blindfolded" and "Scapegoat" can tear you in two, Also theres a bit of a comedic essence to the album with the inclusion of "Get Out Of My Dreams Get Into My Car" done downtuned. I say comedic in the fact that Steve (Vocals) bursts to laughter at some parts during the song. One thing that this record holds is a overall positive feel something lacking alot in the genre. All in all its a solid record, Taproot have quickly risen to become the buzz of unsigned rapcore bands and this debut shows you why.
