Mojo - Abstraction
Here's another brazilian band for you people. I think it's funny that, even don't having an established metal scene here, we actually have some really competent bands here and there. Mojo is not different. What amazed me in Mojo's sound is it's diversity. In the same demo, you find songs similar to Limp Bizkit, deftones and even Radiohead. "Set Me Free" is just your typical heavy song. Rappish vocals, heavy guitars, and everything else you may think of. "When Waits For God", which in my opinion is the best song of the demo, reminds a bit of deftones. Melodic vocals, and catchy chorus. You can't believe how this song's chorus is beautiful. "Wrong? Maybe..." reminds me a lot of Radiohead. Just a real melodic vocal, which in the end of the songs kinda turns into screams, and the beat and feeling of one of Radiohead's songs. "Request Or Require" is another heavy song. Good guitars in this one, particularly. One thing that I dislike in Mojo, though, is it's singer, Flávio. I mean, don't take me wrong here. He has a good voice, which ranges between the most melodic voice you ever heard to some really harsh screams. He just don't know how to use it, and get out of tune a lot, actually. Nothing that can mess with this tape though. Mojo's another band which joins the yet to be big new metal brazilian bands scene, which counts with bands like Pimps, Unfashion, Deceivers, Punch, Profana and now Mojo. God bless the brazilian scene.
