Mindless Self Indulgence - Alienating Our Audience

For a band as innovative and entertaining as Mindless Self Indulgence is, the years they take in-between albums are about as painful as 5 night stay in the shower of a maximum security prison. So with this live offering being pretty much the first release the band have officially put out in over a year the groups legion of fans will take just anything they can get. Recorded live at two shows that took place in Los Angeles, CA and New York City, NY earlier this year, "Alienating Our Audience" is a collection of the some of the bands road tested mainstays as well as a showcase for 6 new songs from their long delayed new album.

For the uninitiated Mindless Self Indulgence are a band who mix the energy of punk rock, the street savvy of hip hop, the electronic wizardry of late 80's video game soundtracks and the tongue in cheek ability to annoy nearly any sane audience member into an explosive catastrophe of music that is so over the top that it just can't help but to be enjoyed. It's like putting a gay G.G. Allin complete with full bling-bling and a Powerglove on a children's TV show and watching the havoc ensue, and fortunately for the listener this release captures the bands sound perfectly.

With the handful of absurdly colorful new tracks present sating the cravings for new material and the ever so rare "Panty Shot" also on hand, "Alienating Our Audience" is an impeccably solid live recording that has more value to it than just hearing the band perform their material on stage. Sure the groups music will always piss off as many people as it excites, but that is the genius of it all and this outing more than has the ability to win over anyone who wants a little something different from the norm. In fact, the only thing it really has going against it is that its not a new album and only leaves the listener anticipating (or dreading) their eventual new release all the more.
