Kary are a unique up and coming Canadian group who are literally bursting at the seams with raw talent. Conjuring up rich sounds, the group stitch together sonically challenging songs that blind with dynamic flair and intoxicate with their scaled down, organic charm. Similar to the likes of dredg and Shun combined with the gritty lo-fi stylings of the Queens Of The Stone Age, the band thrive upon intelligent song writing that is heavily percussion driven, while still being edgy in a non confrontational way.

Band frontman, Paul Murphy has a bellowing voice that firmly holds onto drawn out notes that lift the songs into orbit. At times sounding a bit similar to Counting Crows vocalist Adam Duritz in tonal range, his thick voice adds depth as slippery vocal melodies constantly spiral forth. Guitar playing is boldly atmospheric, as lush notes are plucked and heightened by the aid of the occasional effect. Yet rather than sound like Korn or Rage Against The Machine, band guitarist Tim D'Eon manages to keep his parts sounding natural, almost dripping with vitality. Bass is perhaps the most humble and consistent aspect of the band, with a mild focus being placed upon harmonics and ambiance in lieu of establishing a solid base of operations with warm, driving bass lines. Drums courtesy of Mark D'Eon are enthralling, infusing a real bare bones percussion into the mix, with explosive rolls and a battering of steadily evolving beats that constantly embellish upon themselves, blossoming into riotous fills and delayed timing structures.

With such down to earth production and a touch of old meets new, its quite possible that Kary's music might be akin to what dredg would sound like after having smoked a few bong loads while tripping out to Black Sabbath and Pink Floyd. The sound is adroit and passionate, progressing in two different directions at once which allows it to break new ground with a style that is oddly familiar and almost rootsy. It's a lot like a return to the roots of metal and rock n roll, but where most bands who try such a thing sound nostalgic and meander in a daze, Kary stick to a concise vision, blasting forward into the unknown. Sure, the massive amount of instrumentally driven songs, experimental aural ventures and crisp, scaled down production values may alienate those more akin to the glossy new metal sound; but for those thirsting for something a little different, this more than satisfies. Admittedly things can be a bit rough at times and direction can be clouded here and there; but this is easy to overlook with the abundance of creativity and skill the band possess. In the end, this album may not exactly be "The Sound Of Beauty Breathing", but it definitely is the sound of something inspiring and much needed.
