Dog Fashion Disco - Anarchists Of Good Taste

Dog Fashion Disco have managed to generate quite a buzz for themselves since their formation a few years back and with this being their first album ever released on a international scale, the expectations of it are obviously quite high. Luckily enough for the band, it completely blows their last effort "The Embryo's In Bloom" out of the water. Fueled by 100% more intensity and anger this time around the group mix the sounds of the self-titled Mr. Bungle days with the fierceness of Nothingface to create the perfect soundtrack for a demonic circus from hell.

Using screams, creepy croons and a generally more aggressive nature, vocalist Todd Smith shines on this album, truly abandoning the shackles of the heavy Mike Patton (Faith No More/Mr. Bungle) influence found on the groups previous works and instead treading in his own direction, unleashing savage wails and verses that have the demeanor of a heavily medicated violent psychopath. Guitar wise, the album is more riff heavy combining elements of grating new metal into a spiraling mix of drums, bass, organs, flutes, saxophones and clarinet. In fact, the disc is practically littered with tons of musical nuances and touch's of various genres from jazz to metal and through it all, the talent it is played with keeps the music afloat through unexpected breakdowns and heart stopping twists and turns.

As hard as it may be to believe, this album pretty much has it all, aggression, experimentation, humor, pain, a message, talented musicianship and everything else in between. The sheer volume of ideas and genres toyed with are enough to make the average listeners head swell and yet for the more cultured listener, it is arguably one of the best and most unexpected releases to come down the pipe in what seems to have been an eternity. Sure, many may check it out for the guest performance by System Of A Down front man Serj Tankian on the track "Mushroom Cult", but the band has a lot more to offer and it will take listeners by storm, unveiling something new with each listen. Tracks like "Vertigo motel" and "Pour Some Urine On Me" are some of the most ingenious pieces of music written in a long time and its hard not to think that this is the direction that Mr. Bungle should have gone in. Luckily though, we have Dog Fashion Disco to blaze the trail and build upon what was a solid plan, making it into a magnificent auditory sky scraper for all to enjoy. If this is anarchy done in good taste, the government best begin cranking out the propaganda now, because if given the proper chance, it is liable to catch on quicker than aids in a third world country.
