A Static Lullaby - ...And Don't Forget To Breathe

Who would have thought that a little post-hardcore band from Long Island, NY would have had so much influence when they first got together so many years ago. Now nearly a decade later and Glassjaw's groundwork reigns supreme on many an up and coming emo inflected hardcore group's offering and A Static Lullaby are indeed one of the flock. A cunning blend of emotive melody and confrontational metalcore styled riffs, these California natives look to have all the tools in hand to make an impact for themselves just like many of their like-minded brethren are these days.

Falling in line with bands like The Used, Finch and more, A Static Lullaby have forged a fragile balance between careening riffs and volatile emotion and they slug it out to the bitter end with burning heart screams and wounded introspective croons. Chaotic and cutting edge their songs recklessly bash about and yet they still wind up standing on solid ground as they all seem to walk a well trodden path, even though they do do a good job at kicking up a blinding amount of dust as they go by.

The band are easily at the top of their game for the style of music they play and should have no problems putting themselves in league with other heavyweights like Thursday, From Autumn To Ashes, Poison The Well and more. Thankfully they also have the inclination to venture off into heavier territory in the places where most of their peers instead choose to dabble with effeminate pop-punk melancholy, allowing these five to appeal to fans of heavier music overall. While they do generally lack the unhinged dynamics of the current reigning kings, they still have enough heartfelt crunchy metal going on to keep the listener entertained and invoke an emotional response, which in this genre is all you can really ask for nowadays. Sure it may be too straight forward at times and it definitely won't win the award for "scene" innovation, but "...And Don't You Forget To Breathe" is still a solid album that should pay dividends for the group and build them a strong and thriving fan base.
