A grimy byproduct from the Will Haven/Ghostride camp, The Abominable Iron Sloth may have a questionable moniker, some clever song titles and an animated back story to go behind it all - but that is about where the light heartedness of the group ends. From the first doom-driven note of the record, the band churn through muddy riff driven sludge thick enough to make hip waders a necessity.
Following a path similar to fellow mammals Iron Monkey with Will Haven's astringent dynamic flair as a guide, the band set off into grueling meaty riffs, thunderous turgid drumming and a wealth of gnarled riff-fests caked with violent screams. Hopelessly blunt and near trauma inducing, the group don't look to build up to any cleanly sung elements or acrobatic instrumentals, and instead lumber forth with a determined focus.
Basically, all this group want to do is slowly grind the listener down under their boots by showing off an unmerciful capacity for all things doom, metal and sludge. Rather unsurprisingly, they do this well and many seeking shelter from melodic metalcore and Euro thrash will find solace in the swampy offerings of this album. Of course it's not revolutionary and may not be up to Eyehategod standards, but it will still ensure blood, dirt and tar are deeply ground into the listeners carpet.
