Nick Oliveri Walks Away From Kyuss Lives!, Speaks On Police Standoff

Legally embattled musician Nick Oliveri has announced that he has walked away from the also legally-beleaguered Kyuss Lives! reunion. The news via a very candid interview over at Antiquiet.com.

During the interview Oliveri also discussed his aforementioned legal troubles stemming from a July standoff with the Los Angeles police.

Replying to the possibility of facing jail time, he stated:

“Umm, yes… and no. Hopefully no. But yeah, you know there’s some… the thing with that is… It’s a really bad scene, because I uh… Basically it comes down to, I can’t talk too much about it because I have a court date coming up next month.

You can ask my lawyer…. He’ll tell ya. I have a really good lawyer and he’s taking great care of me. The thing is that I screwed up because I didn’t… When the police came to my house, which nobody in my house called, a friend of ours came over and we didn’t open the door for her. And she called the police — which is absurd.

So it’s a bad scene right now, it’s a bad scene, and I don’t even know how I’m supposed to say that… But basically at the end of the day I screwed up cause I didn’t open the door. I was like ‘I’m not going to open, I don’t have to open the door.’ I didn’t think you have to open the door… (laughs) You have to open the door. A robot came and knocked down my door. (laughs)

And I don’t mean to laugh because it was a bad scene but uhh, I just look at it like I pay a lot of rent. I want to be the king of my castle man, I want to be the king of my castle. I want to have the final say like when I come in and when I can go and who comes in and who doesn’t.”

When asked if drugs were involved, he stated:

“No, but there was uh, unfortunately they… I was in there for three and a half hours, you know, like not coming out.

You don’t think I wouldn’t have gotten rid of, flushed, anything I had, if I had something, you know? Like “I know they’re outside, I’m gonna save this!” You know like. (laughs)

I had just moved into this house and went on tour. Everything was in boxes and somehow, there was a little, little tiny, the smallest little amount of something.”

When quizzed if there was violence, he said:

“No, no. The whole thing about it was that we didn’t open the door. They wanted… she (their friend) was saying that there was some trouble inside you know…”

Speaking on the loaded gun found at his residence by the police, he mentioned that it was a gift from his deceased father and that he had kept it underneath his bed in case someone ever broke in his house. The full interview also touches on his firing from Queens Of The Stone Age and more and can be found here.

Lamb Of God frontman Randy Blythe may lend his vocals to some solo songs originally written by late Gwar guitarist Cory Smoot (aka Flattus Maximus). Blythe recently mentioned the possible collaboration in the below interview.

Obscura vocalist/guitarist Steffen Kummerer has been revealed as the second vocalist for the upcoming Death tribute run, aptly-titled the “Death To All Tour“. Kummerer had the following to say about the opportunity:

“It was a pleasure to get the invitation to play all of those timeless classics as a tribute to Chuck and his work. To be honest, I wasn’t sure if it was a good idea at all to get this project running, due to my respect for the past. The band Death is gone and will never come back, that is the truth.

These shows are a nice way to show tribute to the band and their previous work and help musicians via Sweet Relief. In the end, a good thing and definitely worth visiting one or two shows. I am glad to be involved and be part of this idea to bring this music back on stage. Let the metal flow.”

The “Death To All Tour” will see various former musicians from Death uniting to perform the bands songs. The trek is intended to celebrate late Death frontman/guitarist Chuck Schuldiner and raise awareness for Sweet Relief.

As previously reported, participating Death-related musicians include:

Guitars – Paul Masvidal (“Human“)

A recent update on the bands happenings posted over at their Facebook can be read below:

“What else is going on in our world? We’re writing a new DEP album like we said(god help us all…it hurts my brain to even write about it…we’re going deep down the rabbit hole on this one), and besides that we’ve all got other projects we’re working on(just find our respective pages on here and you’ll find out about them as they progress…any large updates on member side projects we’ll post on here, but not the minor stuff), and we’re trying not to destroy our personal lives/drive our friends and family crazy in the process.

Billy plays drums 24/7, Jeff plays guitar and watches horror movies 24/7 and just had a mold made of his own ass cause he wants to see what it’s like to fuck his OWN ASS(lets see if he catches that…just trying to see if he even reads this shit), Liam is I think in Vietnam…for real…he never came back from our last tour…he’s no doubt leading some weird nude meditation/vegan food/bass playing seminar…on a canoe….and Ben and I are just trying not to die/lose our minds(even though on the outside it may appear that we are actually TRYING to do those things….we’re not…we’re just trying to get as close as possible!).

We’ve got a new Option Paralysis shirt coming out soon, and a webstore is in the works for some non-limited merch designs and also random limited items. Patience, everyone.

Oh, so I guess there’s some random stuff on YouTube popping up claiming to be leaked new DEP songs. They aren’t. I would assume that you would know better, but just in case you don’t….there ya have it.

We don’t ever give anyone demos, Ipods and phones never have new material on them, all songs on our computers are labeled as weird names and in hidden folders, and any reference CDs that we burn to listen to in a car or something are scratched and broken in half and thrown away afterwards…that’s how ridiculous we are…so the odds of ANY song you EVER hear being a “leak” of new material…this early…is fucking zero and beyond comical…”
