Slipknot vocalist Corey Taylor and percussionist M. Shawn “Clown” Crahan gave a revealing interview to about the difficult road to their soon-to-be-released new album, “.5: The Gray Chapter“. Crahan revealed that the album’s opening cut “XIX” drove him to tears:

“I don’t usually let people see me cry. It’s too hard. But when I heard what Corey Taylor sang on the song ‘XIX,’ I cried and cried and cried. It hurt so bad.”

Crahan also revealed that the bands new drummer—reportedly Jay Weinberg—went through an initiation of sorts at the hands of the band. Crahan flew him to Des Moines, IA to the grave of the bands late bassist Paul Gray, stating:

“I made him pay his respects and say hello. I told him what we’re gonna do, and we got on a fucking plane and flew to fucking L.A.”

Both Crahan and fellow percussionist Chris Fehn also spent a good time standing in front of the drummer, yelling and flipping him off as he played to initiate him into the outfit. Taylor in particular stated that the process of making the album and the adversity they faced making it has made them more appreciate of each other:

“When we were younger, we took each other for granted. We didn’t allow ourselves to – for want of a better word – love each other. We loved what we did together, but we didn’t allow ourselves to appreciate each other for who we are individually. We learned the hard way that you can paint yourself right out of a picture, if you’re not family. I think that’s the biggest way that we’ve changed. We’ve started listening instead of screaming. We’ve started reaching out and showing appreciation for each other, whereas before we might have been a little too proud, a little too stubborn. Losing Paul shook us to or foundations, but luckily that foundation held. We didn’t realize we were taking our time with Paul for granted. I’ll be damned if I do it with these guys.”

.5: The Gray Chapter” will be released October 21st on Roadrunner Records.

Attika 7 (Ex-Biohazard, Etc.) Streaming New Song “Darkest Day”

Attika 7 (ex-Biohazard, etc.) have released a lyric video for their new track “Darkest Day“, which you can check out after the break. The song serves as a precursor to their new full-length album, which they expect to release in mid-2015. The bands Evan Seinfeld had the following to say of it:

Attika 7 is proud to release ‘Darkest Day’ to the masses. This is easily our heaviest track to date. We think a lot of people are going to be very surprised about the sound, the energy and the musicianship. We have been working harder than ever to take our music to the next level.

This is the ultimate revenge song about the wheel of Karma coming full circle and the hand of fate, whether by our hands or yours delivering some real justice. Too many people think there are no consequences to their actions, and revenge, a dish best served cold, can taste so sweet.

When someone has done you wrong, you don’t always get to pay them back and when someone takes something from you, something must be done! The weak will beg for mercy and receive NONE, if Attika 7 has anything to say about it.”

It won’t be too long for your chance to hear Northlane‘s as-yet unidentified new frontman. The band will soon be in the studio tracking a new song titled “Rot” with him under the eye of producer Will Putney (The Acacia Strain, Body Count). They said of their plans:

“We just confirmed that next Thursday we will be flying out our main man Will Putney to Sydney so that he can record our first single with our new vocalist. The track will be titled “Rot” and we will be shooting a music video for it the following week. We think it’s one of the heaviest Northlane tracks ever. Graveyard Bassist Rikard Edlund Leaves The Band, Work On New Album Underway

Having previously stepped down after a stint in rehab, Graveyard bassist Rikard Edlund has decided to exit the band, this time to pursue other musical ventures. The band themselves gave the following update on that and their new album plans:

“So, friends, listeners and music lovers. The touring cycle is over for this album and the future is here sooner than you would know. We’d like to thank everyone who has come out to our shows, bought the albums, wore their tshirts proud and made this job one of the absolute best ones you can have.

News from the graveyard is that our dear friend and bass player Rikard Edlund has decided to leave the band and pursue other musical ventures. No animosity between us. We know he will continue to be the riff master and wild child he’s always been.

That being said. We’re working, harder than children in heat trying to get laid, on our next album. No release date or anything yet. It’s done when it’s done. But so far we’re pretty fucking stoked on the stuff we’ve written.

The next time earthlings will have the opportunity to enjoy Graveyard live again will be in Australia around the Golden Plains Festival in March.

See you down under! Or up and beyond! Or behind?”

At The Gates Premiere “Death And The Labyrinth” Music Video

With the October 27th release date of their reunion album “At War With Reality” fast approaching, At The Gates have launched the following new music video for their track “Death And The Labyrinth“. Director Patric Ullaeus (In Flames, Arch Enemy) helmed the clip, of which frontman Tomas Lindberg commented:

“We had a very special idea about the kind of approach we wanted for the first video from ‘At War With Reality‘. What we needed was someone gifted enough to throw himself artistically into the project full on. The lyrics to the song are very multi-layered and surreal, so we wanted someone to create a fevered dreamworld that went with the melancholic frustration and dramatic desperation that we feel comes across in the song. This is exactly what Patric has created for us. It’s his vision of the music and lyrics, which compliments the track perfectly in my opinion. I couldn’t be happier!”
