Red Septembre - wookubus
(12:52 AM MST 04/18/2003)
Former Glassjaw/Now The Jiant bassist Manuel Ragoonanan Carrero recently posted an update online here regarding former Vex Red frontman vocalist/guitarist Terry Abbott's new project, which is reportedly being dubbed Septembre. Here's what he had to say about his experience with the project, which he recorded a number of tracks for:
"It seems that Terry and the rest of Vex Red were going in different directions, musically and personally. So Terry decided to record a bunch of songs he had written on his own. Word got back to Ross Robinson, who called Terry immediately, and told Terry to come out to Cali, and record with him. There really wasn't a band put together, so Ross called Ash Soan, who played drums on the Vex Red record, and myself, to play bass.
We stayed at a cabin in Big Bear, CA for 2 weeks to rehearse for the recording, and then went to Venice, CA to record.
It's different from Vex Red, in the sense that it's stripped down. There really isn't any electronics going on in the record. Basically just drums, bass, guitar, and vocals, with a little stuff added here and there. It's also darker and moody. Up at Big Bear, he would play the songs by himself, and everyone in the room would just be in awe.
No word really on when it's gonna be out. And the line-up really hasn't been discussed to much. it may be an open type of situation. A "whoever's available" kind of thing.
I believe it will be called Septembre, but I'm not sure. It was great to hang out and work with Ross again, and Ash and Terry were amazing. Everything clicked so well. It was very easy to work with those guys. I hope the record does well. Terry is really talented."
