Nonpoint Make A Statement - wookubus
(6:11 PM PST 09/13/2002)
Nonpoint have released a statement regarding the recent comments made in MTV about the band tailoring their sound for radio play, it is as follows:
"As a band, we wanted to address what seems to be a misquote or misinterpretation in a recent MTV.com news story. We have always and will always make music that we believe in, regardless of trends, fads or fashion. We don't and never will cater to radio in our writing process. We make music both melodic and brutal that represents the full spectrum of our experience. Our music is for us and our fans and how others perceive it has never and will never impact Nonpoint. The MTV discussion was a broad conversation regarding the state of radio and music in general and not Nonpoint specifically. What was intended to be said was that we wanted our music to be heard by the largest group of people possible and radio and MTV is a huge part of that exposure. When we made this record we were conscious of the growth of the band and the experimental arrangements and melodies and hoped it would expose us to more people.
We never thought about Nonpoint having a HIT record or even brought that mindset into the creative process. We are considering releasing an EP of heavier material not to placate anyone, it's because Nonpoint makes music and wants to keep writing and releasing records. Heavy music is a huge part of who we are and where we come from."

The Point Of Melody - wookubus
(2:31 AM PST 09/13/2002)
Nonpoint plan to release a new EP in early 2003 through MCA that will showcase a harder side of the band than that which was found on their latest release "Development". Band frontman Elias Soriano recently commented to MTV on the decision saying:
"A lot of our fans were expecting something a little bit more on the edgier, heavier side but unfortunately, this is our livelihood and we have to be smart about the way we write music. But we have a Pro Tools rig in the back of the bus, so we've been writing a couple songs and we're gonna put together a five-song EP to satisfy the small group of our fans that need the crazy, heavy music that radio won't play."
Soriano went on to further elaborate on the bands more melodic sound stating:
"I'm 27 years old, and when we wrote that first album I was 21 and I was just starting to listen to metal music. My exposure was Korn and Rage — heavy, screaming kind of stuff. But I grew up singing choir and Broadway music onstage, so we wanted to take advantage of my voice this time, and that's why the more melodic stuff came out this time."
